Margolis mahogany American Federal Hepplewhite style sideboard
Margolis mahogany American Federal Hepplewhite style sideboard. This sideboard is unsigned but was made by Harold Margolis. It was purchased by our consignors parents from Harold Margolis with a table and six chairs which are signed. The side board measures 66 inches wide by 41 and one half inches high. It is 19 and one half inches deep at both ends and 27 and one half inches in the middle. There are two drawers inside the two front doors. Serpentine front with straight tapered legs. The legs, top, and most all edges of the side board have a lovely inset inlay. Made from the finest solid matching mahogany. The Margolis furniture store was in Hartford CT. They reproduced the best examples of period 18th and early 19thc American furniture designs during the early 20th century Shipping extra. The burned in Wallace Nutting stamp is inside the frame.This is an exact reproduction, made by the famous furniture company of Wallace Nutting. Nutting author of "Furniture Treasury" a book that documented the finest examples of American furniture of the late 16th, 17th,18th and early 20th century in America, started a furniture company that copied the best examples from those periods. Pair American aesthetic movement ebonzied window treatments made by Kimbel and Cabus New York City c1880. Each of this matching pair of ebonized window treatments measures 62 inches wide at its widest part. The brackets that hold it to the wall are 59 and three quarters inches outside to outside, 5 and one half inches deep and 15 inches high. The overall high is 20 inches at center. Queen Anne style mahogany lowboy attributed to Harold Margolis. This lowboy is entirely handmade from book matched mahogany. The front and the drawer slides are mortised into the case. Each drawer has fine hand cut dovetails. Original finish.This is an exact duplicate of an American Queen Anne lowboy circa 1780. One very minor repair to the cap of one foot. Deep shell carved single drawer front. Hand made brass pulls. Measures 41 inches wide, 21 and one half inches deep, and 24 inches high. This piece is unsigned, but we believe it was made by the Margolis shop in Hartford, CT. Pair Potthast mahogany pineapple top twin beds c1920
This matched pair of hand made mahogany pineapple top twin beds were made by the Potthast Brothers in Baltimore, MD, in 1920. Potthast made the highest quality reproductions of 18th century American furniture from the late 19th to early 20th century. The company used only the finest matching mahogany and hired the most skilled craftsman of the time. The carving detail is superb. This is the finest pair of twin beds we have ever come across. Both beds are made of solid stock mahogany. The side rails are single boards that each measure 1 and one half inches thick by 8 inches wide and 75 inches long. The head boards are each 42 inches wide and 66 inches high. The side posts were cut out, turned, and carved from a single 3 inch square block of mahogany. American Connecticut cherry spade foot tripod base tilt top candlestand c1800. This candlestand is in mint condition. It retains its original old finish and dry untouched underneath. The top is a single board. The the tripod base is just the way we like to see them on stands from this period, with high arched legs ending in angled pointed spade feet. The only repair we can see is the tip of one of the feet has been broken and reglued. There are no missing pieces of wood, the piece went back together perfectly. Measures 30 inches high when closed, 43 when open. The single board top measures 20 by 19 and one half inches. Shipping extra.
