American State House Windsor chair 1790
Hartford CT State House Windsor Arm chair. This Windsor saddle seat arm chair is called a State House Windsor because there were many of them in that were made for that State of Connecticut building. They are just a little smaller than the typical Windsor arm Chair. Great turnings with comb back. this period American arm chair measures 18 and one quarter inches to the top of the middle of its seat,28 inches to the top of its arms and 39 inches to the top of its back. Excellent condition with old finish. There are support rods on both arms. C1770 to 1790. Antique period horn powder horn with scrimshaw. American Revolution period powder horn. The scrimshawed carving appears to be original to the horn. The end cap, depicting the date December 19, 1777, is clearly original. The carving is naïve, but detailed and lively, including five ships and a large house with a cut stone foundation and smoking chimneys.
