This table is not signed but we know it is Meeks from previous examples we have sold that were very similar. This a very rare form. J J Meeks American Empire Secretary Desk NY c 1836
RARE Period antique Meeks Furniture Makers NY Secretary desk 1836 to 1859. This Secretary is unsigned but we know from similar examples that Meeks made this masterpiece. All the veneers are book matched and the book matching runs up and down the front of this secretary desk. The condition including the finish is all original. We just had a professional rub out and wax the finish. This two piece Secretary desk measures 87 inches high, 47 inches wide,24 and three quarter inches deep at the base and 13 and one half at the top. Set Gothic Revival Joseph Meeks dining chairs
Set Gothic Revival Joseph Meeks mahogany dining chairs. Set of twelve 'Gothic Revival dining chairs" made by "John and Joseph Meeks NY" in 1850. This is and extremely rare set of chairs made by Meeks. They match the set that is in the White House. See "The White House" page 120 for photographs of the same set of chairs along with a sketch by Stellwagen of Lincolns Cabinet Room showing them as well. This set of twelve Meeks chairs were refinished years ago and are not only in superb condition they are one of the most comfortable sets of chairs we have ever handled.The two arm chairs each measure 37 and one half inches high,26 inches deep and 24 inches wide (out side dimensions) and 24 inches to the top of the arms,and 20 inches deep inside front to back. The ten side chairs each measure 35 inches high,20 inches deep and 17 and one half inches wide (out side dimensions). They are not only comfortable they are very strong chairs so one would not have to worry about a heavy person sitting in them.SOLD....ATTENTION ! Victorian Inlaid New York Cabinet
Fabulous and rare. That is the best way to describe this Wonderful New York cabinet. We found a copy of the New York Herald dated June 4, 1868 behind the door medallion. In side the top drawer and the bottom door is birdseye maple. Measures 35 1/2" across (protruding extended front ornamental moldings) 33" across back. Height 43", depth 17".
