Early American or English needlework embroidery with pagoda
This is a charming early antique silk needlework embroidery in its original gold leaf frame, measuring 9 by 11 inches. It appears to be the work of a young girl. It depicts a Western gentleman and lady in 17th century attire. The lady holds a pink bird. They stand in a garden beneath 2 palm trees next to a Chinese pagoda. The pagoda is sewn with metallic thread and sequins, now darkened with age. Various stitches are used, including the tiniest French knots I have ever seen. Some minor staining in sky, but colors are bright. ** This item has been SOLD and and is not available for purchase.
