18th century wrought iron gooseneck andirons c1750. This is a very early pair of American gooseneck andirons. Most gooseneck andirons we see were made much later, and do not have the heavy tapered fire dogs or the graceful tapered hand forged shafts that this pair has. These andirons are also an unsually large size, measuring 20 inches high by 15 and one half inches deep and 11 and one half inches wide. The penny feet are also in excellent condition. Period antique French fireplace fire back cast iron 1667. This very heavy antique castiron fire back measures 25 and one half inches wide by 36 and one half inches tall. Very good as found condition.The date mark ANNO 1667 was cast in the bottom border. The scene is a classical image of a woman and children in an orchard. There is a goose in the foreground, and a pair of dolphins form the crest. Our consignor had contacted Sotheby's to see if they would be interested in selling it for her.
