True pair of antique hanging ships gimblel candle lamps in nickel plate. Each candle hold has a spring inside that allows the candle to move up as it burns down. The glass shades are missing. The wooden back sconce measures 14 by 4 and one half inches and the candle holder measures 8 and one half inches long. Period antique China trade oil on canvas of the merchant ship Southern Cross of Liverpool, circa 1857, H. Manly, Commander. This particular type of sailing ship is called a barque. It is shown sailing into Hong Kong port with Hawks Peak in the background. The barque has gun ports painted on its sides, although it does not have any cannon. These ships were so painted to deceive marauding pirates. If pirates believed a ship was manned with cannon, they were were much less likely to attack it. This painting has been cleaned and mounted in a period appropriate museum copy frame and museum stretcher. Shipping extra. Echo Four Masted Barkentine by Richetti c1932. This watercolour depicts the Echo, a four masted barkentine of 707 tons and 950 M capacity, built at North Bend, Ore., in 1896 by and for the Simpson Lumber Co. In 1916 she was taken over by A. F. Thane and C., San Franciso and was sold by them in February, 1923, to Robert Purdie, San Francisco. She arrived in San Francisco in February, 1924, with a part cargo of copra from Tonga, and was then laid up. A few years later she was sold to become a floating home at Sausalito; but her owner moved to the Galilee about 1935, and there is not much left of the Echo now. RARE Large White Fan Coral from Nassau Bahamas c1960. This huge piece of white Fan RARE Large White Fan Coral from Nassau Bahamas c1960. This huge piece of white Fan Coral is quite unusual to find. This Fan Coral was purchased and brought out of the Bahamas in the early 1990's. It was found in a jewelry store where the owner was using it as a display for pearls. The owner told our consignor that it was acquired by him up in 1960. Our consignor obtained all the legal permits needed at that time to bring it out of the country. We have copies of documents from the Department of Agriculture dated 14th January 1994 allowing it to be exported to the United States. Documents title, Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora Ministry of Agriculture PO Box N-3028 Nassau,Bahamas. We are not positive but be believe pieces like this one are no longer allowed to be exported. This white Fan Coral measures 48 inches deep, 47 inches wide and approx 17 inches high.
