Anthony Thieme painting titled Morning Light Gloucester c1920. The gold leaf frame measures 39 and one half inches by 35 inches and the painting measures 25 by 30 inches. The back stretcher has the title written on the top. The painting is signed lower left. Anthony Thieme was a Dutch born American painter. Born 1888 died 1954. Thieme, from Rotterdam, Holland, became one of Rockport, Massachusetts’ best known and most prolific painters. As a youth he attended a naval school and developed a love of boats. He studied art throughout Europe, including at the academy in The Hague. His travels took him as far as Brazil and Argentina. In 1929 he discovered Rockport and moved there. he won numerous awards at the Salmagundi Club, the North Shore Arts Association, and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club. In addition, his works were constantly exhibited nationwide, and the following museums own his works: the Montclair Art Museum, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Dayton Art Institute, and others.
