A fascinating book has been published about Jon Schueler and his work titled "The Sound of Sleat", edited by Magda Salvesen and Diane Cusineau, published by Picador, New York. Schueler was taught by Clyfford Still and Willem de Kooning, among others. Please see Who Was Who in American Art, page 2941, for an extensive biography of the artist. Schueler exhibited at major galleries, associated with the influential New York dealers and collectors of the day, and was an important part of the Abstract Expressionist movement that evolved in New York in the 1950s through the 1960s. Fannie and Jennie Burr. 1872 to 1961 and 1858 to 1931. They were 2 of 5 children born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Their father was a very successful farmer. Although the 2 sisters were 14 years apart, they were close. The began to drawing when they were children, and later attended and graduated from the Yale School of Fine Arts. After that, Fannie studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. List in Who Was Who in American Art by Falk.
