Mellor Etruria Myrtle blue and white porcelain plate
Mellor Etruria Myrtle blue and white porcelain plate. ironstone plate, made by the Wedgwood factory in Etruria, near Burselm, in Stafford-shire, England. This factory was established about 1770. The name Etruria was used even after the factory was sold in 1844 (it continued until 1949). During that time, the factory produced custom patterns for various retailers to be sold exclusively under their own names, in addition to producing its general lines. Mellor & Co was probably that of one of those retailers. Myrtle is the pattern name. This plate was made circa 1850 to 1870...ATTENTIION! Antique English potpourri bowl William Lowe Royal Sydney
Antique English potpourri (bowl). William Lowe Royal Sydney Ware circa 1915. This charming piece of English porcelain. Potpourris and pastille (incense) burners became popular among the upper classes to mask the odor of raw sewage wafting into their homes from the city streets. Ormolu achieved its highest technical and artistic development in 18th century France, and the technique spread to England. However, workmanship had deteriorated by the 19th century. Gilt bronze rather than ormolu. By the 20th century, true ormolu was no longer produced because the process was so toxic. Although William Lowe was one of the lesser-known Staffordshire potters,The decoration is clearly inspired by that of Chinese Ming period porcelains. Approximately 10 inche high. ATTENTION!!!!
